About KCA Engineers, Inc.

COMPANY HISTORY

KCA Engineers, Inc. was established in July of 2007 by Kevin C. Kyler, P.E. with 24 years of prior “hands- on” Mech-Elec-Plbg + Technology design, construction, commissioning and maintenance management experience – all within the city of San Antonio. Since its founding, KCA has completed more than 700 Commercial MEP+Tech design/commissioning projects representing approximately $75 million in MEP+Tech construction costs. Ninety percent of KCA projects have been in/around San Antonio with local developers, restaurants, school districts/colleges (NISD, SAISD, JISD & ACCD), City/Federal governments, religious organizations, testing laboratories and health care providers.

Our local A/E, contractor and supplier business contacts/resources are substantial – allowing KCA to provide clients with products, installation and service by San Antonio’s best MEP contractors and suppliers. From here, KCA will continue to provide every project with thorough/detailed designs by ‘37+ year’ Project Engineers, who will also administer and commission the installation – resulting in projects that are on time, within budget, constructible, energy-efficient, maintenance friendly and operationally reliable.

OUR LEADERSHIP

KCA Engineers, Inc. is very experienced, bringing more than 60 years of facilities planning, MEP+Tech design, construction, commissioning, maintenance, and prime contract management to each project. All KCA employees have significant construction and maintenance management experience – meaning, we successfully design systems that are operationally reliable.

KCA President | Project Engineer, Kevin C. Kyler, P.E. (BSME, UT Austin, 1983) has 41 years of MEP+Tech design/construction and maintenance management experience – all in San Antonio. Starting in 1983 as a commercial HVAC control system contractor, he has held positions of increasing responsibility with two major local engineering design firms, Northside ISD, a software database company, UTSA and the University Health System (as Plant Maintenance/Facilities Director).

Kevin, acting as KCA PRINCIPAL/Project Manager/Engineer, trains and supervises employees, performs estimates, on-site survey, design, AutoCAD drawing production, construction administration, commissioning and prime contract management.

KCA Principal | Project Engineer, Michael Kyler, P.E. (BSNE, University of Tennessee, 2015) has more than 7 years of Mechanical/Electrical/Plumbing design and Construction Administration experience – all in the San Antonio area. In that time, Michael has participated in commissioning, performed extensive on-site surveys, developed drawings in both AutoCAD & Revit, developed plans and details of mechanical demolition and new work, and served as lead design for large (>$10,000,000) military and school projects.

Michael has experience in a variety of K-12 applications – including design of several types HVAC systems (VAV, fan-coils, CHW/HW, packaged and split DX/gas & heat pumps, etc.) for administrative offices, classrooms, cafeteria, natatorium, stadiums and (most importantly) central plants (including chillers, piping, variable speed pumps, hydronic specialties and controls

KCA Principal | Project Engineer, Taylor Koerth, P.E. (BSME, Texas Tech University, 2010) is a licensed and registered Mechanical Engineer with more than 12 years of experience managing and engineering mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. Taylor’s project portfolio includes education facilities, office buildings, retail spaces, laboratories, municipal buildings, hospitals, food service buildings, medical buildings and industrial and manufacturing facilities.

Taylor is involved during all project phases to ensure that the program requirements, project budget, schedule and quality control are successfully delivered.  Taylor’s leadership style implements team collaboration which allows him to take on all project roles, exceeding all needs associated with all project phases through construction completion. He enjoys building client relationships and working in the field with the contractors to help implement efficient and progressive design solutions. His emphasis on quality goes beyond design to include quality service and quality project documentations, coordinating an efficient and functional design, exceeding all client needs.

Taylor has significant hands-on experience in the construction trades, working in the semiconductor cleanroom industry for six years, designing and building state-of-the-art cleanrooms for major computer chip manufacturers.

Director of Construction, Matt Dunn has 18 years of experience in the construction industry with most of it being within the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing trades. Project portfolio includes education facilities, office buildings, retail spaces, laboratories, municipal buildings, hospitals, food service buildings, medical buildings, and industrial/manufacturing facilities. Responsibilities include providing drawing quality control, constructability review, commissioning services, and construction project management, coordination, and conflict resolution.

Director of Electrical Engineering | Electrical Engineer, Lon Culbertson, P.E. (BSEE, Iowa State University, 1986) has more than 40 years of Electrical Engineering and MEP design/construction and maintenance management experience. Starting in 1983 as an apprentice electrician, Lon has held positions of increasing responsibility ranging from project management to electrical team leader to Director of Electrical Engineering. SERVICES | APPROACH | RESOURCES

KCA specializes in complicated MEP+Tech project design, management and commissioning requiring broad technical expertise, creative solutions, budget control, and a short time-line. On-site survey/documentation of existing conditions (where` required) is extensive, followed by concept development, detailed cost estimates, reviews/approvals, then detailed construction drawings – all hard wrought, but delivering projects designed/constructed on time, with minimal RFIs/change orders, within budget and “work right” for all involved – from Owner to occupants, to contractors to maintenance. KCA commissions all HVAC/control system projects because we’re experts in HVAC/control system design and KNOW this is where most problems occur. We own/maintain numerous field measurement devices and remain proficient in AutoCAD, Revit, MS Office and Project Cost Estimating Software.
